Post #6, Apr 19,2015 - Forwarded By Stiig, VE3LBX RAC Ontario Sections Bulletin for April 18, 2015 NATIONAL NEWS 1. Incident Command System Training ARES under direction from their respective SMs, offers support to municipalities across Canada in providing a back-up communications capability for the municipal emergency management team. Some of these municipalities or served agencies use ICS and where that exists, there could be a request that ARES radio operators be trained at least to the ICS-100 / 200 levels in order to be familiar with its concepts. RAC does not have the resources nor is it structured to offer in-house ICS training. In Ontario, there is online training available at the emergencymanagementontario.ca website for IMS100 which is functionally equivalent to the ICS-100 course mentioned above. ONTARIO SECTIONS NEWS 2. ITEMS OF INTEREST 3. SOUTH AFRICA HAMS GAIN FULL KILOWATT PRIVLEGE Hams in South Africa have been granted a transmit power increase to a full kilowatt. For decades the maximum South Africa output power was limited to 400 watts peak envelope. A workgroup was established to campaign for higher power. After negotiating for several years, South African telecommunications authorities were satisfied that the call was well motivated. The updated regulation was then published in the South African Government Gazette and the new 1 kilowatt output power privilege became effective on April 1st. (ZS6FDX) 4. Each year they also put out a request for amateurs to assist in communications for safety and coordination. This year the rally is on Apil 25th, 2015. If you would like to help or are would like to learn more, please visit their website at: http://www.stcharleson.ca/st.-charles-big-bear-rally.html If you would like to assist with communications, please respond to this post and I will forward your request to the appropriate members of the St. Charles group. It is not necessary for you to have or ride an ATV in order to assist, but if you have an ATV and can be mobile on the course it would be a benefit. Thanks, Ken VE3PHC

Post #9, Apr 22, 2015 - SARC Meeting reminder and info By Roger, VE3ZI The next meeting of the Sudbury Amateur Radio Club will take place at 7pm on Monday 27 April at the Laughing Buddha. We have two important changes to make to the constitution both of which require a quorum: (1) The number of paid up members present at a properly constituted meeting shall be considered to be a quorum: (2) The treasurer shall present accounts to the members at the Annual General Meeting. These proposals have already been presented to the membership, but we have not so far had sufficient paid up members at a meeting to carry them! The reason for making these changes is that the law related to not-for-profit organisations is changing, and unless we specify the quorum and the method of presentation of accounts we would be bound by rules applicable to much larger organisations than ourselves. If you agree (or disagree) with the changes I would appreciate it if you could either attend the meeting, or appoint somebody to be your proxy. The latter can be done by email or otherwise but must be in writing. The Laughing Buddha is a nice place to meet for a chat and a drink. However, it is not at all suitable for technical presentations and I think we should look elsewhere. I would prefer any alternative meeting place to be close to the town centre, as this equalises distances for all members, and allows easier access by bus. Perhaps members could think about this or even make enquiries. I look forward to seeing you at the meeting. 73 Roger VE3ZI

GLOBAL AMATEUR RADIO EMERGENCY CONFERENCE CANCELLED The ARRL reports that the sponsors of the 2015 Global Amateur Radio Emergency Conference or GAREC 2015 have announced that the event has been cancelled due to a lack of interest. GAREC 2015 registrations were too few, and the decision was largely financial. GAREC was set to mark its 10th anniversary this June in Tampere, Finland, where the first GAREC was held. 4.
